Strong storms likely east of Denver on Monday night

There's a threat for some stronger storms in the metro area for Monday, but they'll likely stay just east of town. Tuesday could feature Denver-area storms, though.

DENVER — FORECAST BY: Meteorologist Chris Bianchi

THE FORECAST AT A GLANCE: We've still got a few stronger storms on the far Eastern Plains after a fairly active Sunday afternoon of weather, but those should clear out fairly quickly over the next few hours.

But, a busy Monday looks likely with widespread showers and storms, including a few stronger ones mainly east of Denver, looking likely.

A cold front pushes through Colorado on Monday, and that'll potentially lead to some stronger storms on Monday evening across northeastern Colorado.

Large hail, damaging winds, and even a few tornadoes are possible with Monday's storms, especially east of Denver. The far northeastern corner of the state has the highest probability of seeing the nastiest storms on Monday afternoon and Monday night. These storms will likely develop after 2 p.m. and push east, and again, we'll have a bit of an overnight threat for stronger storms as well for Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Make sure you have a way to get weather warnings for Monday and Monday night!

Tuesday will be cool, gray and rainy and perhaps stormy behind the front. Highs will probably be stuck in the low 60s, about 10-15 degrees below our seasonal average. We could get some stronger storms if we can clear things out in the morning, but it's likely we'll see some more general (small hail, brief gusty winds, lightning) afternoon showers and storms on Tuesday.

Meanwhile in the mountains, that same system will lead to a solid thumping of late season snow for Tuesday and Wednesday. 3-6 inches (or locally more) of snow looks likely above 9,000' in elevation in the high country on Monday night and Tuesday.

A ridge of high pressure moves back in for the end of the week, and that'll allow temperatures to climb back above average across most of the state with only isolated shower and storm chances for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

In the meantime, keep an eye to the sky over the next few days, especially on Monday and Tuesday!
